He was married to Catherine Gross (daughter of ) in 1816. Catherine Gross was born on 26 May 1796. ⁽³¹⁾ She died on 14 Sep 1856.⁽³²⁾ John App and Catherine Gross had the following children:

92 iii. Mary Ann App was born on 28 Jan 1822. She died on 15 Oct 1832.

+94 v. Hiram Percival App.
95 vi. Simon Peter App was born on 7 Jul 1828. He died on 17 Jul 1830.
+96 vii. Anna Amanda App.
+97 viii. Catherine App.
98 ix. George Washington App was born on 12 Feb 1836. He died on 23 Aug 1858.

He was married to Sarah Brobst on 3 May 1857.
